This event is all ages

Having chalked up nearly fifty years at the peak of the music and entertainment industry, Justin Hayward’s voice has been heard the world over. Known principally as the vocalist, lead guitarist and composer for the Moody Blues, his is an enduring talent that has helped to define the times in which he worked.

When the Moody Blues took a break from touring in 1975, Justin worked on the Blue Jays album, followed by the hit single ‘Blue Guitar’ (recorded with the members of 10cc). Although the Moodies continued to record and tour at the highest level, Justin also found time to create several solo albums: ‘Songwriter’, ‘Night Flight’, ‘Moving Mountains’ and ‘The View From the Hill’.

Proving that he could write massive hits outside of the Moody Blues, Justin hit the Top Ten globally in 1978 with ‘Forever Autumn’ – created for Jeff Wayne’s ‘War of the Worlds’ album. Becoming, even for a writer of his stature, a signature song, this was the spur to him taking to the stage – for five years, from 2005 – 2010, and starring in the spectacular live stadium production.

Whilst releasing solo albums and DVDs and working on many different projects, including new solo recordings, Justin continues to tour with the Moody Blues all across the world. Justin records in Italy and France of which he says, “Spending time making music in a beautiful place with your friends is every songwriter’s dream”. His latest album of new songs ‘Spirits Of The Western Sky’ – for Eagle Rock – was followed by several solo tours, and most recently a ‘live in concert’ DVD ‘Spirits…Live’, which reached No1 on the Billboard Video chart. “My acoustic solo tours give the perfect balance to the big production of the Moody Blues concerts. I’m so lucky to have both”. His live solo show is currently being shown all over the USA on PBS TV.

Mike Dawes
Mike Dawes is an English guitar player and touring musician, hailed as one of the world’s finest and most creative modern fingerstyle performers. He can seamlessly replicate a full band on a single instrument, completely live. Bass, harmony, melody and percussion.

His acclaimed solo music has gained over 10 million hits on popular video sharing sites, but Mike is not considered a ‘YouTube act’. Since the release of his debut album in April 2013 he has toured almost every continent on the planet numerous times, bringing his hyper technical, yet intrinsically musical instrumental performance to tens of thousands globally. He has recorded with, sessioned for and even taught multiple grammy award-wining artists, appeared on film and TV soundtracks, released apps, transcribed for international music magazines and even featured on Justin Hayward’s live DVD, entering the Billboard charts at #2.

Mike regularly tours as Justin’s lead guitar player, performing Moody Blues classics throughout the USA, Canada and beyond. Countless additional high profile musicians including Steve Vai, Gotye and James Valentine (Maroon 5) have all spoken of their admiration towards his work. Mike needs to be seen live to be believed. His ability to create the most unusual tones and textures from an acoustic guitar leaves fellow musicians stunned. To quote the Maroon 5 axeman, ‘What the hell is going on? It’s beautiful’.

‘He is among the very best in the world. I’m thrilled that he is part of this tour. He’s exceptional, I know you’re going to love him’ – Justin Hayward, The Moody Blues

At 25 years of age, Mike has made a huge impact in a relatively short space of time. His persistent work ethic and entertainingly meticulous approach to composition and performance on a single instrument has seen raised smiles and dropped jaws all over the world. He is not a typical guitar player. On a single steel string guitar Mike is able to coax out the most unusual and subtle textures, whilst performing layers and layers of music simultaneously. Bass. Percussion. Harmony. Melody.

In a style that is hard to illustrate, the young Brit combines rock, folk, funk and pop music in an instrumental concoction that leaves listeners both confused and intrigued. However, it’s his innate musicality and ear for melody that give listeners something different. Mike is able to utilise his incredibly advanced technical arsenal to achieve a musical and emotional end, a skill set often lacking in the instrumental category. In the live arena, his British humour and electric presence sprinkle an entertainment not uncommon in a Python skit.

Mike is a rare breed of live musician. Without a spoken word he can evoke a rainbow of emotions with his music. With a spoken word he can brighten anyone’s week, English speaking or not. Throw in his staggeringly refined instrumental proficiency and you have a true, world class tour de force.

In June 2012, Mike Dawes released his first solo instrumental through the US label, Candyrat Records. This incredibly detailed arrangement of Gotye’s smash hit ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ took on a life of it’s own when it smashed through 1.5 million views in just one week online. Since going viral, the video found itself on the front page of Reddit, Collegehumour and hundreds of popular blogging sites. MSN news featured Mike on the front of their US web browser whilst Gotye himself praised the arrangement as his favourite cover of the song, even inviting Mike to session at his studio in South Australia.
