Hailed by the Miami New Times as “one of the 10 best music events in 2017,” the GroundUP Music Festival is returning to Miami Beach for its 2nd annual festival on February 9-11, 2018. The 2017 festival concluded with Snarky Puppy, Esperanza Spalding, Chris Thile, Pédrito Martinez, Laura Mvula, Jacob Collier, Terence Blanchard, David Crosby and many other friends under a full moon next to the ocean and beach with a capacity crowd dancing and cheering as it was announced that festival host Snarky Puppy had just won its 3rd Grammy Award in four years at the Grammy ceremony taking place simultaneously in Los Angeles. The 3000+ attendees travelled to the festival not only from 37 states in the US, but also from 34 different countries around the world, to experience the 3 day festival with intimate access to more than 150 artists from around the globe giving 50+ performances and leading 15+ intimate workshops. For 2018, the artist-centric, small festival (capacity approx. 1500) with no overlapping sets and great acoustics in a small outdoor theater on the beach/ocean will be hosted by Snarky Puppy, and in addition to GroundUP artists, will feature The Wood Brothers, Béla Fleck & the Flecktones Trio with Victor Wooten & Futureman, Robert Glasper, Jo Jo Mayer/Nerve, Buika, Lionel Loueke, Eliades Ochoa (the great from Buena Vista Social Club), Mark Guiliana, Jamey Haddad, Josh Redman, and other exceptionally talented and diverse artists from all over the world. GroundUP will continue to push the envelope on the typical festival experience and break down the barriers between audience and artists with more intimate master classes and workshops and personal interactions with the artists, great local food, and as the Miami Herald cover article declared “a wildly eclectic range of stellar and hard to define artists.” Says 2 time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame legend David Crosby, “I don’t think you’ll get a better shot at hearing real music than at this festival. It will knock your socks off.”
