The Decades Of Rock starring Randy Franklin & The Sardines, and the Mannish Boys
Rock & Roll is the story of American music through the decades. The turbulent times, the happy times, and all of the changes in our world that Rock & Roll reflected, and continues to do so. Great songs and great stories that again being people together for great times.
The Decades Of Rock show features two Charlotte bands playing the story of Rock & Roll through its most revolutionary times. The Mannish Boys, featuring former members of the Spongetones, Belmont Playboys, and the Mighty Diamells, deliver the authentic sound of the 1960s garage rock, R&B and psychedelia. Randy Franklin and the Sardines then deliver the super sounds of the 1970s rock and pop (before pop was a four-letter word), and the decades that followed.
Come together, now and again. For the music, for the times that used to be, and the times that are again.
Randy is a native Charlottean who grew up in the 1970s, when Charlotte was a much different town. Getting his first guitar for Christmas at the wee age of 6, Randy began playing in earnest, and as a high school student, began jamming with local bands and performing solo throughout the Charlotte area.
Teaming with Gina Stewart (Blind Dates, Doubting Thomas, Volatile Baby) in the early 80s, the pair toured the bars and clubs of the Carolinas, playing honky-tonk country rock and original tunes. In the latter part of the decade, Randy formed the Providence Drive Band; a bluegrass meets high energy rock-n-roll. With Ed Leitch (Halifax) on lead guitar, and Randy on guitar and banjo, the foundation was laid of what would eventually morph into Crisis, the band Randy has led for the past decade.
Crisis has released 5 critically acclaimed CDs since 1998, and has received radio airplay and record sales from Sweden to Japan. As the band’s primary songwriter, Randy forged the crunchy pop, unmistakable sound of Crisis.
When Randy is not touring with Crisis, he still enjoys performing solo shows, spotlighting his prolific song writing, as well as spot on renditions of classic rock cover tunes.
The Mannish Boys bring it, and bring it all. Garage rock, British Invasion, blues and early R&B. The band plays the songs that they grew up on, as did you, and that you want to hear again. Ragged and loose in all of the good ways, like a Rock & Roll used to be, and is again.
