LEE CHILD & NAKED BLUE - Exploring Jack Reacher Through Music
After a friendship born of unlikely coincidence, mutual fandom, and a shared love of music and story, bestselling author Lee Child and songwriter/recording artists Scott & Jen Smith of Naked Blue spent time together exploring Lee’s Jack Reacher, one of the most celebrated serial characters in modern fiction. The result is a full length album, Just the Clothes on My Back, illuminating Jack Reacher in a brand new medium. This extraordinary collaboration comes to the stage mixing Americana/Rock songs from the album, performed by Naked Blue, and conversation about the character and the project, as well as Q & A with the audience, by Lee Child.

“..bold, assertive blues-rock tunes that, thanks to Jennifer Smith’s throaty, expressive delivery, remind of artists like Susan Tedeschi and Lucinda Williams without feeling derivative of either; Naked Blue is its own thing, a potent pairing whose natural rawness and muscle suit the Reacher ethos beautifully."
- Jason Warburg, The Daily Vault

“At a recent NYC appearance at City Winery with author Lee Child, blues rock quartet Naked Blue played songs from their new Jack Reacher-inspired collaboration with the acclaimed writer. Spanning everything from the character’s confident, fearless swagger to the lonely heartache of an eternal wanderer, they evoked a wide range of emotions within nuanced songs that clearly delighted the audience and Reacher’s creator.” - Bryan Reesman - Billboard, Newsday

Lee Child was born in 1954 in Coventry, England, but spent his formative years in the nearby city of Birmingham. By coincidence he won a scholarship to the same high school that JRR Tolkien had attended. He went to law school in Sheffield, England, and after part-time work in the theater he joined Granada Television in Manchester for what turned out to be an eighteen-year career as a presentation director during British TV's "golden age." During his tenure his company madeBrideshead Revisited, The Jewel in the Crown, Prime Suspect, and Cracker. But he was fired in 1995 at the age of 40 as a result of corporate restructuring. Always a voracious reader, he decided to see an opportunity where others might have seen a crisis and bought six dollars' worth of paper and pencils and sat down to write a book, Killing Floor, the first in the Jack Reacher series.

Killing Floor was an immediate success and launched the series which has grown in sales and impact with every new installment.

Lee has several homes—an apartment in Manhattan, country houses in England and the south of France, and whatever airplane cabin he happens to be in while traveling between the them. In the US he drives a supercharged Jaguar, which was built in Jaguar's Browns Lane plant, thirty yards from the hospital in which he was born.

Lee spends his spare time reading, listening to music, and watching the Yankees & Aston Villa soccer. He is married with a grown-up daughter. He is tall and slim, despite an appalling diet and a refusal to exercise.
Drawing from the Americana tradition mixed with a roots rock sensibility, performing songwriter team Jen and Scott Smith, and their band Naked Blue, have become a mainstay on the singer-songwriter/pop scene. They've built a devoted following for their writing, recording and performing, and have just released their 7th album – an extraordinary collaboration with bestselling author Lee Child based on his iconic Jack Reacher character, out November 2018.
Scott and Jen's obvious joyous connection on stage and easy rapport with their audience are the hallmark of their performance style; defined by their interwoven guitar work, Jen's instantly recognizable smoky, vulnerable voice and Scott's passionate, impeccable lead guitar. Over the years they've developed a reputation for great songwriting as well; credits include cuts on Evangeline's 'French Quarter Moon' Margaritaville / MCA, Troy Turner's single on Telarc Records and many, many tracks in TV and film, including Brooklyn South, The Smokers and The Girl Next Door.

Naked Blue has worked with a host of fine artists, sharing stages with John Mayer, Joe Cocker, Dan Fogelberg and Aimee Mann, to name a few. Scott and Jen's Wood and Stone Room recording studio and Wood and Stone Songwriting Retreat have led to collaboration credits on a songwriting Who’s Who including Todd Wright, Jon Carroll, Wyatt Easterling, Anton Fig and more.
